There goes a famous saying,
"Healthy Students Build A Wealthy Nation."But it's heartening to know that even after 62 years of our country's independence, lakhs of under- privileged children are deprived of their basic rights like nutritious food and educational benefits. Poor parents are forced to withdraw their children from schools and engage them in menial jobs, thus locking these children in a vicious cycle
To liberate such children from this vicious cycle, as per the suggestion of United Nations to fulfill the Millennium Development Goals ( MDGs ), Govt. of India have initiated "Mid Day Meal" program in 1995 all over the nation. NGOs and Charitable Trusts were invited by the Govt. to help the schools by providing the "Mid Day Meal" to the children.
ISKCON Food Relief foundation ("IFRF", the "Trust" or "we") was formed under the auspicies of the International Society for Consciousness ("ISKCON") with the twin objectives of eradicating hunger and promoting education amongst the underprivileged sections of the society and thereby ensuring their socio-economic development. IFRF is a non-profit, non-religious, non-sectarian public charitable trust formed on April 23, 2004 and registered under the Bombay Public Trusts Act, 1950.
Iskcon Food Relief Foundation is a separate trust and receives no funds from ISKCON Temple.ISKCON Food Relief foundation Nigdi - Pune have started "Mid Day Meal" project on 19th June 2005, feeding 5,000 students / day and now this figure have increased to 21,000 students / day, spread over 55 nos. schools in and around PCMC, Alandi and Talegaon Dabhade Municipal area, without regard to religion, caste or gender. And there is a growing demand from other schools also.
To meet this demand, we have planned to take this figure to 50,000 students / day in coming two years.
"Enhancing Educational Experience"It is our vision that each child receives education and it is towards this goal that we have been assisting the Government in the implementation of the Mid Day Meal Program since our inception in 2004.The future of India lies in the health of her children. The Mid Day Meal Program is our humble contribution to building a strong future for the country.
No child in India should be Hungry and hunger should not be an obstacle for Education
Close to 13.5 million underprivileged children in India are out of school and into child labour in order to earn a single meal in a day. (Source:www.worldbank.org.in)
The surest way to break out of the cycle of poverty is through education. Education can significantly improve the quality of life of a family for generations to come. When the basic needs of a child, such as food are not met, education often becomes the last priority.
We are helping underprivileged children by providing them with a healthy, balanced meal that they would otherwise have to work for. The meal is an incentive for them to continue their education. It helps reduce the dropout rate to an enormous extent and increases classroom attendance.
